The Complexities of Integrity

The word for 2019 for me was integrity. You can talk all day, but the old adage is true: actions speak louder than words.

A key component of God’s holiness is that God/Jesus is the same today, yesterday and forever (Hebrew 13:8; Revelation 1:8; Psalm 90:2); God does not change or vary in Godself (Malachi 3:6; Numbers 23:9; Lamentations 3:2-24). This Lack of variability is the core of what integrity is: I am the same inside and out, alone or around others, in season and out of season. And so being HOLY means to not vary in your walk with God, to remain in God’s perfect will for you.

The word of God declares that we are to be DOERS and not HEARERS only; that faith without works is dead; and that we are to love in word AND deed (James 1:22; James 2:18; 1 John 3:18). Most importantly, if you know what is right and fail to do it? It is sin!!! (James 4:17; Titus 1:16).

What is right, then, to do? Glad you asked!

Repent.

From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Matthew 4:17

He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

Luke 23:46-48

Obey.

Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.

John 14:23

Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.

Romans 1:5

Love.

Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31:8-9

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.

Isaiah 1:17

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17
