Joyous Kwanzaa, Day #5: NIA

When God created mankind God did so with intention, making man in His own image and taking time to shape the form of man with His own hands and breathe into man life.

Within the breath of God is a portion of God’s character, and that is PURPOSE. We are shaped in it, born with it, pursue it, are frustrate it by it, die trying to accomplish it, love and hate it all at once, desperately need it. I guess you could say that we are destined to seek our purpose.

BUT HOW CAN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WERE MADE FOR WHEN YOU AREN’T CONNECTED TO YOUR MAKER?

Most of what we do, say, wear, watch, or buy is a losing attempt to fill the hole that should be full of God’s presence. And we work and accumulate, work and accumulate, never satisfied and always grasping and unfulfilled even when we say we are—trying to mask the fact that we don’t really know our purpose. Instead we pretend and fill the never-full holes with things and people, hoping one day to find what will fit the God sized space.

It is God’s presence that illuminates the purpose that sits in your belly. And it is only in the light of His countenance that the seed of purpose within you will germinate, break open, and grow into the shape of the need in your heart. The prophet Isaiah said, “Arise, and shine! For your light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee!” (60:1). When the light hits you, you will arise—with purpose because the original plan and expected end God had for you—to prosper you and see you win—will be activated.
